Film govori o paru (Willem Dafoe i Charlotte Gainsbourg) koji nesretnim slucajem izgubi sina, bas u trenutku seksualnog odnosa. Zbog zenine depresije, muz, inace terapeut, ju odvodi u kolibu Eden gdje su inace znali boraviti. Tamo se pocnu dogadati razne nerealne stvari. Otkriva se pozadina ženina straha i emocionalnog sloma kroz brojne metafore.
Film obiluje eksplicitnim seksualnim scenama, a pojedine su toliko sokantne da su izazvale bijes i osudu od strane publike. Posebno su fascinantne usporene scene surealistickog krajolika s polaganim uvodom pracenim prigodnom glazbenom podlogom i crno-bijelim scenama, gdje se prikazuje vaznost svakog detalja price.

A couple lose their young son when he falls out the window while they have sex in the other room. The mother's grief consigns her to hospital, but her therapist husband brings her home intent on treating her depression himself. To confront her fears they go to stay at their remote cabin in the woods, "Eden", where something untold happened the previous summer. Told in four chapters with a prologue and epilogue, the film details acts of lustful cruelty as the man and woman unfold the darker side of nature outside and within.
